The day will promptly start at 9:30am until around 12:30pm and is limited to 6 spaces. One well behaved dog per handler.
The day will start of with a small lecture the common conditions/injuries that affect canine athletes and how strength and conditioning can help to prevent injuries. We will touch briefly on the benefits of physiotherapy and hydrotherapy for canine athletes. We will then delve into massage therapy, including the different massage techniques and the benefits. After, there will be a small break, followed by a practical session where you will be able to try the different techniques on your own dog under the supervision of a qualified Veterinary Physiotherapist or Hydrotherapist. The day will conclude with a brief lecture on correct harness fitting and a small Q&A.
Emma Craigie-Halkett BA(Hons) PGDip AMM MA AdvCertVetPhys MIRVAP (VP)
Emma graduated in 1998 and established Theravet in 2000 in Hampshire. In 2013 Emma moved Theravet to Chipperfield, Hertfordshire. This practice grew rapidly, leading to opening another centre in Scotland.
Emma went on to complete specialist post grad qualification in McTimoney Chiropractic Manipulation. Emma is a physiotherapist for members of the GB agility squad and currently works with a dog in the GB Disabled Championships. Emma’s interests lie in canine sporting and working dog performance and post operative spinal and orthopaedic conditions.
Opal Weston MSc BSc(Hons) PGDip Veterinary Physiotherapy MIRVAP (VP)
Opal graduated with a Master’s in Veterinary Physiotherapy from University of Nottingham, having trained in both canine and equine. Her research project focused on veterinary physiotherapy for the canine amputee. She enjoys all rehabilitation cases.
She has always had a love for animals, having grown up with them. In her free time, she spends time with her dog Harley, her horses, pigs, and various poultry and waterfowl.
When Opal was offered the opportunity to open the Theravet Centre in Scotland she jumped at the chance.
Eleanor Lovejoy BSc(Hons) Canine Therapy SEG Level 3 Small Animal Hydrotherapy MIRVAP (ICH)
Eleanor has always had an affinity with dogs, her dream career always involved wanting to help animals, quickly finding a passion for animal rehabilitation. Following graduating her BSc(Hons) degree in canine hydrotherapy and massage she has definitely got her dream career off to the perfect start! She enjoys all rehabilitation cases from neurological to fitness and conditioning, seeing the benefits therapy can bring to our clients wellbeing, comfort and mobility is most important to her. Ellie is a lead Hydrotherapist on our team and carries a post graduate certificate in class 4 laser therapy.
