Lead Veterinary Physiotherapist & Owner
BA(Hons) PG Dip AMM MA Adv Cert Veterinary Physiotherapist. IRVAP.
Emma graduated in 1998 and in 2000 set up her first Veterinary Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy Centre in Hampshire, as Theravet. This built up a successful reputation and in 2013 she sold her Hampshire clinic to a colleague and moved Theravet to a current purpose built practice in Chipperfield, Hertfordshire where Emma had previously grown up. This flagship practice grew rapidly, now employing 7 members of staff and in 2024 Emma decided to branch out offering a new centre based in Scotland, in an area she had known for many years. Theravet at Bowhouse offers the same strong ethos the Chipperfield site provides – a calm, natural and welcoming environment with plenty or space, peace and tranquility with a first class team of caring and professional colleagues.
During her post grad years Emma went on to complete specialist post grad qualifications in McTimoney Chiropractic Manipulation and Veterinary Physiotherapy gaining a high level Distinction in both her MA and post grad. Combining this with her Equine Science degree Emma was able to expand the services offered and went on to treat a wide range of patients and disciplines. Emma is the physiotherapist for members of the GB agility squad and has treated a number of high profile equine patients. In small animal practice Emma’s interests lie in canine sporting and working dog performance and in post operative spinal and orthopaedic conditions. She and her team have been involved in developing treatment plans for iliopsoas strain which are used in other veterinary establishments. Her equine experience covers performance horses through to family ponies and she enjoys working in mixed practice.
In 2018 Emma recognised the need for support in the British Service Dog sector. Having been involved in the rehabilitation of a number of retired British service dogs over the years, she recognised the funding struggles for ex military, police, rescue and border force dogs and felt passionately about their access to good rehabilitation in their retirement. As such she set up one of the first dedicated charities for the physical rehabilitation of retired service dogs in the UK, K9 Heroes.
Emma has written a number of articles for veterinary publications, appeared in TV documentaries and radio phone-ins and occasionally she guest lectures for universities and colleges. She is a keen supporter of graduates and also in providing access to seeing practice for undergraduates. Alongside work Emma is a dedicated mummy and enjoys walking, climbing and riding. She has had a number of her own animals over the years and has a keen interest in the environment and organic farming.
