K9 Heroes was established to help fund the ongoing care and rehabilitative support of Canine Service Dogs in the UK who have been retired from duty as a result of injury or illness.
The charity was developed in 2018 after Emma Craigie Halkett BA(Hons) PG Dip AMM MA Adv Cert Vet Phys MIRVAP a British Veterinary Physiotherapist was impressed by the ongoing dedication of handlers and owners to their retired service dogs and their sometimes complex rehabilitation needs.
Veterinary Surgeon Raquel Amils LV PGCertVBM Cert AVP TP Ortho MRCVS joined the venture and the charity was born. Both Emma and Raquel continue to practice and run the charity around their ongoing work in supporting animals, along with help from other trustees.
K9 Heroes supports dogs from the Armed Forces, Police, UK Border Force, Fire and Rescue, Mountain Rescue, Search and Rescue and any other British organisation which enlists service dogs.
Theravet is Proud to also work closely with many British Working Dogs. They have provided the training and guidance for UK Border Force units regarding the wellbeing of their dogs during their daily work lives in terms of the stresses and strains of movement and locomotion for a normal working dog and how best to help prevent injury, maintain fitness and deal quickly with potential soft tissue injury.
The team also rehab a wide number of working Police Dogs. Theravet provide treatment for these dogs at reduced rates and enjoy working with these amazing animals.
